Training Benefits

Our Workouts Are A Great Way To Get In Shape

Our classes are like an exercise program with a bonus! You learn to defend yourself while you get in shape. However, unlike some aerobic classes, you never feel out of sync with the group because everyone works at their own individual pace.

Our Workouts Relieve Stress

Our classes can be like a mini-vacation twice a week. The physical workout provides a distraction from the mental stress of the office or school and can contribute to a better rest/sleep cycle. The physical activity strengthens the body while providing a change of pace mentally. A break from your daily routine can actually make you more productive at work or school.

Our Classroom Practice Sessions Give You Confidence

The confidence building part of our program is what students appreciate most. Nothing can replace the security of knowing that you can defend yourself if you have to.

What We Teach Could Save Your Life

At AMAC everything we teach is reality-based. To insure you are prepared, our instructors work very hard to insure that most any situation you might encounter on the street is covered in the classroom under very safe learning conditions.

Our Program Is Fun

We make the classes fun because we know that if people are having fun, they learn much faster.

Testimonials

"I was looking for a school that I could attend and bring my children to for training as well. I wanted a school that would teach me practical self-defense techniques. In addition to being practical, I had to have a family environment for my kids. The Atlanta Martial Arts Center is a fun, non-threatening family environment where you can learn practical skills and be challenged at your level. If you’ve considered looking at the martial arts for the first time or are on your third black belt, AMAC has something for you."

Robert P. Copeland, J.D., M.B.A. - Attorney

"I began my path in the martial arts in the police academy where many of the defensive tactic techniques were Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu based. I dabbled in the training for the years I was in law enforcement but never trained with any continuity until a fellow officer turned me on to Sifu Alan Baker at AMAC. I visited AMAC, had one private BJJ class with Sifu Baker, and was completely hooked from that point on. I started with training solely in BJJ and lost 20lbs (that I didn’t even know I had to lose) in the first 3 months. About a year in, I began classes in CSW, Judo, JKD, and recently KFM. No matter what system I trained in, the instruction and learning environment was higher quality than any school I have ever experienced. Sifu Baker and the ITC instructors create and an unrivaled environment focused on education, practicality, and safe training. Sifu Baker is the ideal model of knowledge in the arts, discipline, lifelong learning, and humbleness. I am 34 years old and I am beginning my 4th year at AMAC. The martial arts at AMAC have changed my body and mind. I am stronger and healthier than ever before and have developed a new found appreciation of mind, body, spirit, and how they work together. I would encourage anyone wanting to follow a path of learning in the martial arts to come to AMAC and join our extended family."

"This is COOL!"

John Copeland - Age 7

"I came to the Atlanta Martial Arts Center 8 months ago to train in one of the many arts taught at the school. The great thing about AMAC is you get to try out all of the arts you want to see which you like best. I had never done Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu before so I decided to give it a shot. I was hooked instantly! The BJJ class was exactly what I was looking for. It combines flexibility, strength and endurance training, and self-defense into one great package. The classes are always fun, energetic, and you always learn something new and useful every time. It is amazing how you learn to control your own body and your opponents. It's truly a practical martial art. Okay, now you know that BJJ is a great self-defense and general fitness martial art, but why choose AMAC’s BJJ class? The first reason is the instructor, Alan Baker. Alan is a great instructor because he can convey knowledge to any person with his teaching techniques. He also has a background many of the arts and pulls what is useful from them and applies it to his BJJ class. This gives the class an edge over other schools. Second, are the people you train with. Everyone has a great attitude and is always willing to help you out or show you a new technique. In my time spent at AMAC I have lost 25 pounds and 2 notches in my belt (working on the third), while increasing my tone and definition, strength, stamina, and flexibility. I also have made some great friendships along the way with my training partners. So if you are looking for self-defense, general fitness (or both) I would highly recommend trying out the BJJ class at AMAC."

Luke Kennison - AMAC Student

"I've gained confidence, endurance, and lost over 50 pounds in the last year. I'm 40 years old and well on my way to being in better shape than I have ever been in before. The AMAC is the best thing to happen to me in a long time. I recommend starting a training program to all of my friends, and have signed up my 9 year old for their Kids Kung-Fu program as well. You will not find a better place to train and grow as a child of an adult."

John Geiger - Programmer

"Like many people, I took some martial arts as a kid and then later as an adult. Although I enjoyed the fitness aspect, each time I wondered if what I was studying was going to be useful for self-defense. About a year ago, a friend told me about The Atlanta Martial Arts Center. As soon as I met with Sifu Baker, I knew I had found my new school. The Atlanta Martial Arts Center has a wide range of training that teaches authentic martial arts, not just as a sport or exercise, but real self-defense."

Robert McBride - Real Estate Broker

"As a woman, I’ve always been told that it was crucial to have some sort of self-defense skills. I always meant to take a class, but I kept putting it off. Besides, I figured that my pepper spray was enough protection for me. Then one night, while I was walking home, I was attacked. The most frightening part of the incident was that I had my pepper spray in my hand and ready to go- but I did not have a chance to use it. The assault happened that fast. After that happened, I started looking for some kind of martial arts self defense course. I researched quite a few schools in the Atlanta area. The places I called turned me off with their hard sell tactics. In addition, many of the websites that I researched were confusing or vague. I found the AMAC website to be very straightforward. When I called AMAC, I was invited to try it out for a week, free of charge, to see if any of the classes were what I was looking for. The Jeet Kune Do/Personal Defense System class was a good fit for what I was looking for. I was impressed with my week of classes and signed up for a plan that worked well with my schedule at that time. I came in with no martial arts experience whatsoever. The staff at AMAC has been very patient with me- I was encouraged to go at my own pace rather than to be in competition, which has been very helpful. The instructors are very knowledgeable, supportive and helpful. The other students are great to train with as well; an overall positive and helpful environment is encouraged for all. I have learned so much here. The classes still fit around my crazy and ever-changing schedule, whether it is my job, school, or family life. I can take classes in morning, night, or even on Saturday. I have now been attending AMAC for 2 years. Through studying martial arts classes I have learned so much about myself. My self-confidence is so much higher, and spreads out to all the other areas in my life. My level of concentration has increased, and my level of stress has decreased. Also, I have a new hobby I love! In addition to JKD/PDS that I started with, I am now taking Thai Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I am in the best shape of my life- my flexibility and stamina are incredible. You definitely get a great workout along with everything else. Finally, if another bad situation was to take place again (and I have no doubt that it could), I feel that it is likely that through the awareness skills that I have picked up through everything I have learned here, my reaction time would be much quicker, and I would be much more likely to get away. I really cannot say enough about all that AMAC has done for me. I can definitely say that I am a totally different person than the one who walked through the door two years ago, and that’s a good thing!"

Laura Olree

"My early impression of the level of professionalism and realistic instruction at AMAC was guardedly high. Both prior to and during my military service, I have had the luck of working with fine instructors and motivated, mature training partners, and the learning experience of "grandmaster gods" selling the latest irresistible technique, or training beside others who had either no desire to increase their skill, or who sought to do so at the expense of everyone around them. I have found neither issue at this school. Since that early impression, I have had the opportunity to expand the arts I study at AMAC, and feel that my confidence, physical and mental capability under stress, and health have all benefited. Both competitively and within the confines of my job, I have had to rely upon the training received, and have found it up to the task under both circumstances. To be able train people to do so is by itself exceptional. However, in addition to this, the staff has produced these results in an environment that is safe and scalable to fit the needs of civilians, athletes, military and law enforcement, children and adults. In their flexibility and respect, I have noticed no lack of attention to the younger or stronger, male or female, fit or not. To accomplish this standard of training in this kind of environment is profound. To Mr. Baker as well as his assistant instructors, I give the best compliment and recommendation I know how. I would be proud to have them instructing my Marines, my friends, and my family.""
